VALE GERRY NOLAN 1940-2025

I just wanted to inform your group that my father has passed away. I know he used to be in touch with and attended some reunions of QANTAS Ex-Technical Training colleagues, previously organised by Neville Fountain and Jim Peterson (dec.)

Here are some notes about some relevant flying parts of his very colourful and extraordinary life:

Born in Whyalla, South Australia, and inspired to fly while living as a young boy in Cleve, young Gerald spent some years in service, from 1959-1963, as an electronics technician and cadet pilot in both the RAN and RAAF.

Gerry Nolan then worked for QANTAS from 1963 to 1966, first as a flight simulator technician and then as an airline operator instructor on the Boeing 707.

After he left QANTAS, he started his own flying school AV-ED Aviation Education Services, in North Sydney, and was managing director and chief instructor from 1966 to 1968.

Later in 1982 he was the travelling ground coordinator for Dick Smith's solo helicopter flight around the world.

From 1991-1995 he was Mayor of North Sydney.

He passed away peacefully on 31 January 2025 and if any close colleagues from the 1960s would like to attend the memorial wake in North Sydney this Sunday 2 March 2025, please contact his daughter Emma Nolan on 0425240600.
