At a young age Lew worked for one of the four 'originals' of Qantas, Arthur Baird, at Rose Bay Flying Boat Base. She ended as Secretary to CEO Bert Ritchie, marrying him some time after the death of his adored wife Gwen.
I can hardly believe this myself, but a few days ago a thought came strongly to mind "I wonder what happened to Gladys Lewis." One of those strange things as she died on that day, 8 November. Age, 96.
Her death made me think of the unsung contribution made by so many like Lew and HF's long-serving Secretary, Ida Isaacs and Marj Strang née Taylor, Bill Nielson's Secty. Not only the women who were employed, so many giving help and advice, but also the wives who took on the spirit and work of Qantas in support of their husbands. I dips me lid!
