A Message to All Our Traffic Friends:
Prepare yourselves, for today I bring you sad news of the passing of an Institution.
Sadly, I must report of the death of our dear friend and ‘old mate’ J.J.
(Or in his words ‘He has popped his clogs’)
John’s time with us goes back to the wonderful days of the ‘Old Terminal’.
He joined Qantas in January 1965 after arriving on Aussie soil in Geraldton (WA) late 1964.
At the tender age of 27, J.J. had already enjoyed 11 years with the British R.A.F.
Spending time in Germany, Singapore and Hawaii.
With his yearn to travel, he joined an airline and set out to see the world.
As a new Traffic Officer, he earned his stripes the usual way in various departments.
Until he found his natural fit to be in a Customer Service role.
With the introduction of “Red Coat’s”, John had found his natural space.
With a love of people, he would send a ‘lost soul’ in the right direction.
Always a happy fellow, he was ready to brighten your day with humour.
John finally retired from Qantas in 1992 and set his sights onto other ventures.
His local “Men’s Shed” and “Lion’s Club” received the benefit of his passionate support.
It was these organizations that continued his strong desire of helping people.
He remained active in these organizations until the end.
After battling with his health for some time, John suffered a stroke on the morning of 22 May 2026.
He was quickly taken by ambulance to hospital where his dear Robyn, quietly and lovingly said ‘Goodbye’
He died early that afternoon, at the tender age of 89, with Robyn by his side.
A funeral Service will be held, and information will be advised in the coming days.
Rest In Peace J.J. (A Friend to All and Lover of Life)
