John (known as Jack) Dawson boarded his last flight on Sunday, 20th February. With family at his side to wish him safe travels, he flew away, a smile on his face and a heart full of love. He was just shy of 95. Jack was born in Bathurst on 18th April 1927. He joined Qantas in 1949 in the Economics Department then went to the Finance Department where he worked for many years. He became Director of Planning working closely with Keith Hamilton then the CEO. In the early 80s he was asked to run Jetabout, the Qantas tour subsidiary company until his retirement from Qantas in 1987. From 1987 until 1993 he had Consultancy Contracts, together with George Rogers, to advise the Qantas CEO. Not wanting to retire fully, he then guided the finances of The Echo, a small Byron Bay newspaper – a thorn it seems in the side of the Murdoch press.
