John was born into aviation, his father CTP Ulm, Australia's pioneer of the sky. John attended Sydney Grammar, served as a Spitfire pilot in WW11 and survived as a POW before embarking on a career in journalism and as one of Qantas' longest serving executives at that time.
He held the senior position of Chief Press and Information Officer.
He was 101 years of age.
