DEATH NOTICE
Rodney Peter Williams
of Wollongong
Passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with MND on Tuesday, 23rd June 2026. Beloved husband of Norma. Much loved brother and brother-in-law of Cheryl & Wayne Ashmore. Cherished uncle of Kate & Chad, Sarah & Shaun and great uncle of Ben, Alex, and Isabel. Rodney will be sadly missed by his loving family and many dear friends.

BIO of:
RODNEY WILLIAMS.
BORN 1959. PASSED 23 JUNE 2026 AGED 67.
Rod enjoyed a stellar career in commercial aviation having spent several years with QANTAS in a number of Finance and Commercial roles before taking up similar roles in Virgin Australia in 2012.
In QANTAS, one early role saw Rod based in Japan as Finance Manager in the airlines Tokyo office.
On his return to head office, he took up the role of Manager North East Asia and Japan routes.
In May 2001 Rod was appointed as General Manager Alliances where he spent the next 6 years in this crucial role that saw him coordinate several QANTAS departments and allied airlines representatives as the importance of partnerships gathered momentum. Rod once described the role as “like herding cats” but he loved it.
His last role in QANTAS was as Manager Loyalty Relationships in the QANTAS Frequent Flyer department.
In June 2012 Rod joined Virgin Australia as Manager Finance Support for Alliances, Network and Yield. Rod’s last role at Virgin was as Head of Finance at Velocity Frequent Flyer.
Along the way Rod enjoyed some 20 years as part-time aviation lecturer at RMIT and Swinburne UT, lending his skills and experience to the aviation stars of tomorrow.
Rodney was often described as “natures gentleman” and somebody who made work pleasant due to his beautiful manner, his calmness and efficiency.
